 “The wedding night is the first night the bride and groom are together as husband and wife, it should be special and memorable, just like the wedding day,” says Monika Mondal Verma, co-owner of A Night of Romance.  “The wedding night should be a night that a couple will look back on for years to come.  After a long wedding day, walking into a room that is specifically designed for the couple’s comfort and taste is an experience that the couple will never forget,” adds Monika’s business partner, Nirmala Singh.

During a conversation about each other’s wedding planning experiences, Nirmala and Monika realized that they had been looking for the same thing for their respective wedding nights, and it was likely that other couples would be looking for the same thing. “There wasn’t any company that specialized in wedding night decorations when I was planning my wedding,” says Nirmala.  They took it from there and started the business in 2008 and became the premier company in Canada to specialize in creating a memorable romantic experience for the wedding night.  Both of them saw an important need for this service, especially for the South Asian community where the tradition of wedding night or suhaag raat decorations has flourished for hundreds of years.

The ladies are inspired by Bollywood movies.  Monika and Nirmala reflect on decorating one room where the bridesmaids chose the “Bollywood Night to Remember” package to surprise the bride and groom.  The room was decorated in the same colours as the bride’s outfit and songs special to the couple were chosen.  Exotic flowers and sensual fabrics were used to add to the ambiance of the room.   “It really looked like a room out of the Bollywood movie, Devdas,” says Monika.  The Bollywood package also includes Indian décor, candle holders and cushions.  “Devdas has a very maharaja, regal look and feel and that has been an inspiration for our work,” says Monika.

Even though Bollywood is a big influence on Monika and Nirmala’s room designs, they are also inspired by a more Western notion of romance.  In their “Room for Romance” package, the bedroom is decorated with roses and rose petals instead of more exotic flowers common in the South Asian style.  Whatever the taste of the couple, whether Bollywood or contemporary, A Night of Romance caters to the couple to ensure their vision is a reality for their special night.

Aleksandra DiPietro says she used A Night of Romance’s services because she wanted her honeymoon suite to be special. “I knew that they were able to create that fantasy and beauty and turn an ordinary hotel room into extraordinary.” Aleksandra had a pink roses theme for her wedding and wanted to have a continuation of that theme through the night. 

“When we walked into our honeymoon suite, my husband and I both looked at each other and said ‘WOW this is amazing!!!’ There were rose petals leading to the bed, champagne, chocolate desserts, soft music and candles everywhere.  I’ll never forget such a beautiful sight,” says Aleksandra.  “I only saw something similar in movies before, it was definitely very special.”
